THE COURSE The knowledge of the anatomy of normal and malformed hearts is the base for the comprehension of physiology, clinical presentation and treatment of patients with congenital heart disease.
Therefore echocardiography, a live autopsy, is the basic tool for all those who are interested in pediatric cardiology. Starting from teaching the basic technical aspects of the echocardiographic equipments, and the fundamental projections for studying the heart, the course will accompany the attendees to the knowledge of the echographic features of all the major congenital heart malformations, and of how to diagnose them, to measure dimensions and volumes, and quantify Doppler signals and function.
Live specimens examination from the anatomical collection of the Cardiovascular Pathology Unit of the University of Padua and hands-on session will enrich the program, completing the basic teaching of echocardiograhy.
A final mock examination will test the efficacy of the Course and prepare the participants to further steps in the knowledge of echocardiography and to the accreditation examination organized by the Association for European Pediatric and Congenital Cardiology.
Two master lectures will give an overview of the past, present and future of the discipline.
